Programme: Os Satyros is a Brazilian theatre group based in São Paulo that has been active for over 30 years already. They have been researching the theatrical potential of new technologies since 2009, and when the global pandemic started in 2020, it was a logical move for them to start investigating the potential of virtual theatre, as the physical theatre spaces started to close. The first play they made directly to zoom, with every actor acting from their homes, was a Brazilian version of the play called The Art of Facing the Fear, that has been transformed into two other productions as well, European-African and North American ones, has reached tens of thousands of spectators around the world, and has been awarded in USA, India and Brazil.
On the night of Thursday March 18th, the participants of the Finnish Social Pedagogy Conference 2021 will have the honour to receive Os Satyros as their guests, directly from Brazil, with excerpts of the play The Art of Facing the Fear and with director Rodolfo García Vázquez giving some background on group’s philosophy concerning virtual encounters and telepresence, that is, the possibilities of theatre to reach out to their audiences during these exceptional times and to create global theatrical communities.
